  1. I think his time has passed when it comes to being a WFA horse ala Hartnell, and when they transferred him to being a handicap horse, yes he carried topweight on a number of occasions, but there was a reason for that – he had class, which is what Avilius... 2. Speaking to Jamie Lovett prior to the Metropolitan, he said the horse would need to run well there to warrant a trip to Melbourne. Was that run worthy of a trip? I’m saying no, but he got the weight relief in the Caulfield Cup and ran a much improved race.... Read More » The post Mustajeer first appeared on Just Horse Racing. .
  3. If you’re looking purely at weights, Verry Elleegant is a near good thing. She is thrown in here considering her amazing record and really, should be carrying topweight. Outstanding Caulfield Cup triumph. She was there to be run down but showed great courage to fend off Anthony Van Dyck. I... Read More » The post Verry Elleegant first appeared on Just Horse Racing. .
  4. It’s difficult to dismiss a Danny O’Brien trained stayer, especially a reigning Melbourne Cup winner. I’m just not sure how well he is going and does go up 5kg from last year. I’ve got others ahead of him. Cup Field : View the 2020 Melbourne Cup Field Vow And Declare... Read More » The post Vow And Declare first appeared on Just Horse Racing. .
  5. If it was any other trainer, I’d say zero chance. But we know Willie Mullins doesn’t bring camels to Australia and he does come here off the back of a career best flat run. If he is to win, or feature, he would want a wet track and for it... Read More » The post Stratum Albion first appeared on Just Horse Racing. .
  6. Coolmore were hellbent on winning a 2000m Group l with him, so the Cox Plate seemed the logical race for him, maybe even the Mackinnon, but the new connections have purchased him with a Melbourne Cup in mind, so was the Cox Plate win a bonus? Maybe. The three times... Read More » The post Sir Dragonet first appeared on Just Horse Racing. .
  7. It’s difficult to dismiss a horse with the Lloyd Williams colours when it comes to the big races. He was so good in the Melbourne Cup last year and since then, the focus has been specifically set for the two miles. Has he got the quality to match it with... 8. He’s been set for the Melbourne Cup for the past two years and has run well in it. He’ll run well again I’m sure and was game in the Caulfeild Cup after doing work in the run. He’s the Bradley Cooper of horse racing. He’s got the looks. Has he... Read More » The post Finche first appeared on Just Horse Racing. .
  9. He’s a much better horse than the one we saw in the Melbourne Cup last year. With the Lloyd Williams factor, I dare say eyes have been on the Melbourne Cup for 12 months, and I think he’s one of the leading contenders when it comes to the internationals. Cup... 10. Amazing record in Australia. No matter how he is going overseas, once he comes down under, he’s a different horse. If it’s a dry track come Melbourne Cup Day, he’s one of the key winning hopes. 11. Burrows Seeside wins last night at Newcastle It was the lucky last’ for us on the all weather yesterday and a strong ride from the excellent Harrison Shaw saw a second career start for the improving ‘Burrows Seeside’ owned by the Morgan & Casterton families. They couldn’t have been more delighted and nor could we as he quickened up impressively to reach the post just in time having found himself in traffic trouble a furlong out. Katie took him to Newcastle and was delighted to also win the Best Turned Out award The Racing Post Analysis reads…. Phil will be seeing if he can run him
  12. Lady Buttons & Katie at Wetherby This time last year we were so excited to be taking Lady Buttons & Top Ville Ben to Wetherby for the OLBG Mares hurdle & The Charlie Hall Chase…. this time we have Lady B retired and dreaming of her future husband and Ben on the easy list as he recovers from a setback. Racing is full of ups and downs, and while you must look forward and not dwell on what ‘might have been’ there is no harm in reliving the memories and what memories Lady Buttons has left us with! She had the most incredible career – 12 wins for Adam Nicol, 2 for Tommy Dowson and the

  14. Kim Bailey’s chaser can take a big step towards the Cheltenham Festival in March with a defeat of Cyrname at Wetherby If Cyrname can run to within 10lb of his best Ascot form on his first start at Wetherby on Saturday, he will make a mockery of odds of around 2-1 for the Charlie Hall Chase. He looks vulnerable on his first start since February, however, has yet to win left-handed and has not reproduced the huge effort that beat Altior last November in two runs since.
