Lingfield 19:35 Sir Edward Elgar Promising sort. Won 6-runner maiden at this C&D (AW, 5/4), driven out. Off 166 days. Makes plenty of appeal on handicap debut. Newton Abbot 13:45 Theo Scored over fences at Leicester in November but off track since below-form fifth in handicap at Ascot in December. Pitched in at a low level with sound claims on these terms, so well worth considering
  2. Stratford 17:30 Ballymoy Smart hurdler in 2018/19. Useful form in this sphere, rattling off the hat-trick in a Perth novice (23.8f) in May. Hard to knock his subsequent Newton Abbot second and expected to be in the mix again.
  3. Southwell 13:30 Boughtbeforelunch Been in good form in staying handicap chases, scoring at Ludlow before a cracking run off this career-high mark at Aintree. Won on his only other visit to Southwell and lots to like.
  4. Windsor 14:50 Rebel At Dawn Latest win at Nottingham in June. 28/1, creditable sixth of 19 in handicap at Royal Ascot (5f, soft) 9 days ago. Still very much of interest in this less competitive affair. Curragh 16:10 Passion Smart filly. 14/1, good 3½ lengths third of 12 to Wonderful Tonight in Fillies' & Mares' Stakes at Ascot (12f, soft), nearest finish. Off 8 months. Return to this trip, so not taken lightly on return.
  5. Doncaster 16:35 Monbaher Muhaarar colt who really clicked when blinkered for his handicap debut at this course last time, powering through from rear before being eased down. Obvious claims despite hefty rise. Newmarket 20:35 Passion And Glory Missed whole of last season and efforts in Dubai earlier this year were poor. However, firmly back on track when scoring in good style at Lingfield (1¼m, AW) recently and big player under a penalty.

Newcastle 17:30 Lost My Sock Tongue strap on for 1st time, career best when winning 5-runner handicap (7/1) at Chester (5.1f, good to firm) 12 days ago. 2 lb rise fair and should be in the mix once more. Hamilton 20:00 Wise Judgement Gambled-on 7/2, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at Beverley (8.4f, good to firm) 9 days ago, having benefit of enterprising ride. Expected to be bang there under a penalty.
  7. Carlisle 15:30 Chichester Winning start for this yard on AW in April. Hard to knock consistency since, running well again when second to the useful Pivoine at Haydock a fortnight ago. Cheekpieces added. Big player. 16:05 Tricorn Already bagged 4 wins this year and he readily landed the odds in 5-runner handicap at Thirsk (12f, good to firm) 8 days ago. Carries 4 lb penalty but holds very good claims in bid for a five-timer. Naas 18:00 Kharma Lightly-raced maiden. Excellent third of 16 in handicap at Fairyhouse (6f, good to firm, 16/1) 12 days ago. Big player.

Ran no sort of race at Goodwood (7f) next time but bounce back not ruled out in this less demanding affair. 15:10 Soul Seeker Latest win at Hamilton in May. Respectable sixth of 19 in handicap at York (6f, good to firm) 10 days ago. Likely to be in the shake-up. Newbury 19:00 Typical Man Winner at Doncaster in May. 7/2, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Windsor (8.1f, good) 22 days ago, left poorly placed. Big player with William Buick in the hot-seat. 19:30 Sunset Bay Unlucky not to win when second at Salisbury (7f, good) 9 days ago, conceding first run. Pulled 6 lengths clear of the third and should take plenty of stopping off the same mark. 20:05 The Waterman Improved performer this year, building on his 5f Salisbury reappearance second when going one better at Wolverhampton 14 days ago, suited by strong pace. Only up 3 lb and likely to go well again.

No surprise to see him go well again. 16:55 Blow That Horn Promising sort. Progressed again on his qualifying run when third of 10 in maiden (12/1) at Yarmouth (11.5f, good to soft) 23 days ago, clear of rest. Open to further improvement.

Decent effort in a Worcester novice hurdle next time and should make his presence felt. Haydock 18:35 Second Collection Improved on recent efforts to win 6-runner handicap at Bath in May, second past the post but subsequently promoted. Fair effort from a poor draw at Chester confirms she's still in good nick. Player.

Has his attentions quickly returned to chasing and ought to go well again.
  13. Chelmsford 14:10 Royal Dynasty Returned at the top of her game after 7 months off for a third C&D win in April. Failed to stay the longer trip on turf at Nottingham last time but respected back over this C&D. Ffos Las 18:50 Lord Schnapps Off 11 months but got back on track for his new yard when second of 9 in handicap chase at Worcester (20f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Sure to go well again off the same mark. Lingfield 18:05 Silken Petals Twice-raced maiden. Third of 13 in maiden at Redcar (6f, good, 5/2) 16 days ago. Looks the one to beat on the form she showed on debut. 20:40 Horsefly 1 win from 3 runs this year. 6/1, career best when winning 8-runner handicap at Lingfield (10f, good to firm) 12 days ago, pushed out. Progressive and she should go close.

The one to beat on that form. Has 3 lb penalty. Ripon 19:30 Excel Power 3 wins from 5 runs this year. 5/2, 8 lengths last of 5 to Mitrosonfire in handicap at Pontefract (6f, good to firm) 9 days ago, restless beforehand. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Could get back on the up.

Sixteen wins from 42 Flat runs. 6¼ lengths eighth of 9 to Lazuli in Palace House Stakes at Newmarket (5f, good to firm, 9/1) 45 days ago. Should go close. 20:10 Act Of Magic 5/1, creditable third of 12 in handicap at Thirsk (12f, good to firm) 12 days ago. Yard is in excellent form and he makes plenty of appeal.

Windsor 19:30 Edraak C&D winner in April but he beat only one when 6/4 favourite in 6-runner handicap at Doncaster (6f, good) 44 days ago. Sort to bounce back. Nottingham 20:50 Nakeeta Ended a long losing sequence at Ayr in September and has run creditably in defeat both starts this term. Respected.
  17. Doncaster 16:15 Akkeringa Upped his form when second of 9 in maiden at Yarmouth, form that's backed up by the time, and every chance the race came too soon when disappointing in a handicap there next time. Worth another chance.
  18. Newton Abbot 20:50 Luckello Has a reasonable pedigree and wasn't at all disgraced when fourth of 10 at Southwell first time out. Capable of better with the benefit of experience.
  19. Sandown 14:45 Celestial Queen Decisive winner of 1m Redcar handicap on return in April and found just one too good at Ripon next time. Best to draw a line through her last run and she's high on the shortlist.
  20. Nottingham 15:20 Soyounique Respectable fourth of 12 in handicap (2/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 23 days ago, not ideally placed. Yet to fully prove himself on turf.
  21. Haydock 15:45 Sir Rumi Held on gamely to make second start a winning one at Nottingham (1m, good to firm) in April and progressed again when second to a promising sort over this trip at Lingfield since. Handicap debut.
  22. Roscommon 16:10 Antey Useful chaser. 2/5, didn't need to be at best when winning 10-runner maiden chase at Limerick (19.6f, good to soft) 21 days ago, easily. Stable in good form. Should continue to give a good account.
  23. Leicester 16:00 Sir Taweel Winner at Windsor in April. 9/2, good fourth of 10 in handicap at Windsor (8.1f, good) 7 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Should be in the mix off the same mark back at 7f.
  24. Goodwood 14:20 Grey Fox Much improved fitted with this headgear when making a winning return at Windsor. Might have found soft ground against him at Leicester next time and worth another chance. Kilbeggan 14:25 Ruaille Buaille Useful hurdler. 11/1, below form fifteenth of 24 in handicap hurdle at Punchestown (16.4f, good to soft) 40 days ago. Clearly the one to beat if back on her game.

Epsom 14:00 King Frankel Small-field maiden win at Pontefract backed up by the clock and he found only a good prospect too strong on handicap debut at Newbury 3 weeks ago. 6 lb rise to deal with but he can be a factor. 15:10 Century Dream Won this race in 2018 and 2020 (run at Newbury. Added to his pattern-race is in Group 2 Celebration at Goodwood last August. Well held in Lockinge on return but much respected back in calmer waters. Musselburgh 17:30 My Girl Maggie Landed back-to-back AW staying handicaps around the turn of the year and remained in form since, hitting the frame again when third at Goodwood 14 days ago. Will go well again.
